Dr Thato Chidarikire is currently Director for HIV Prevention Programmes in the National Department of Health in South Africa. She’s also Acting Chief Director for Child, Youth and School health Programmes. She holds a PhD Degree from University of the Witwatersrand, with a specialty in Virology.
She has over 20 years professional experience gained in Academia, Research, Parastatals, Clinical Trials and the Public Health Sector. Her vast experience in health covers policy and guideline review and development, implementation, strategic and technical leadership of HIV and AIDS programmes.
She has served as co-chair for WHO HTS Guideline Development Group, and currently chairs various national HIV Prevention Technical Working Groups and Think Tanks in South Africa. She has worked in close collaboration with external stakeholders including Global Fund, PEPFAR, WHO and UN family. She has published in several peer reviewed journals and is currently the National Principal Investigator for the SA-CDC Co-Agreement.
